The Pioneer DDJ-ERGO-V controller will offer native support of Serato DJ Intro software from mid December, providing intuitive operability and high quality sound to Serato users who love to play out.

Already popular for its sharp design and portable dimensions, the DDJ-ERGO-V places emphasis on the DJing experience, bringing simplicity to both set-up and performance without compromising on features or sound quality.

The DDJ-ERGO-V is the perfect partner for Serato DJ Intro; its layout mirrors the software’s graphical user interface (GUI) and all of its major features are available via dedicated controls. DJs can access Serato DJ Intro’s two decks, while hot cues, samplers and effects are positioned for instinctive operation.

As part of Pioneer’s continued efforts to make products that are loved by all DJs, the DDJ-ERGO-V comes bundled with Atomix Productions’ Virtual DJ Limited Edition and a TSI control file for Traktor software. The MIDI output already makes it compatible with most other DJ software on the market. And from December, it will offer native control of Serato DJ Intro – making it one of the most versatile controllers a DJ can buy.

The DDJ-ERGO-V controller is available at a suggested retail price of 499 euros (£429) including VAT.

The DDJ-ERGO-V. Play Out More.

DDJ-ERGO compatible Serato DJ Intro will be available for download from mid December at: http://serato.com/downloads/dj-intro

DDJ-ERGO-v firmware must be updated to the latest version before using the new Serato DJ Intro. Download the latest firmware for free: http://pioneer.jp/support/download/dj-e/ddj-ergo-v

Serato DJ Intro instructions and quick start are available at www.pioneerdj.com/support

KEY FEATURES

Layout mirrors Serato DJ Intro for intuitive operation
The DDJ-ERGO features two players and a two-channel mixer, making it the perfect partner for Serato DJ Intro. DJs can showcase their skills with dedicated buttons and knobs for all their favourite Serato DJ Intro features, including Hot Cues, samplers and effects.

Innovative laptop integration keeps GUI in DJ’s view at all times
Pioneer’s laptop design enables DJs to place laptop keyboards underneath the controller to use as little space as possible and keep Serato’s GUI in their line of sight at all times. The controller can be adapted to sitting or standing positions using its removable legs, making it perfect for every set up.

Plug-and-play through a single USB
DJs simply need to connect the DDJ-ERGO-v to a laptop running the latest version of Serato DJ Intro[i], and the software settings will be automatically updated. The controller is fully USB-powered, without compromising on audio output or lighting levels. So DJs can just arrive at a venue, plug and play.

Boasts features from Pioneer’s pro range for top quality sound and ease of operability
The DDJ-ERGO boasts many features that are unusual at this price point, including the 115mm Jog Wheel from the Pioneer pro-DJ range. The controller has also inherited the same layout as the popular DDJ-T1 and DDJ-S1 controllers. Plus the controller employs the same audio circuitry as Pioneer’s professional mixers for the master out terminal, ensuring a clear, powerful reproduction with no sound degradation.

Back in September we received the following email…

Hi I have a web-based event management software built for DJs which is due to be released publically in November/December 2011 and was wondering if you have any events coming up which I can bring it along to demo.

Naturally, we were only too pleased to get this guy down to SEDA to show off his software, especially as he’s a local chap based in Kent.

DeckBooks slots in right alongside other event planning software titles such as DJ Intelligence and DJ Event Planner. It runs and stores all of your data and information “in the cloud” (albeit UK clouds) and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via your computer or smartphone.

It’s based on all current web technologies, HTML5, CSS3, Ajax and jQuery. If you don’t know what any of that means then do not worry, all you need to know really is that this web app is an absolute joy to use. Here’s a list of just some of its features…

Full event management.

Client, Venue and Performer management.

Extensive reporting and financial information about your business at your fingertips, all exportable to CSV for importing into spreadsheets.

A portal allowing your clients to see information about their event, manage their playlists using a unique “drag and drop” system, make payments (through Paypal and Google Checkout. Worldpay, CardSave and SagePay are in the pipeline) and more.

Full HTML editor allowing you to create your own document templates such as letters, invoices and hire agreements, etc.

…and lots more!

We caught up with the Developer, Lee Mills to find out a little bit more…

Who is Lee Mills and what is your background?
I am a full-time senior web developer and part-time DJ. I have been DJ’ing for nearly 6 years now doing events for friends, families and at my local club. I am experienced in numerous programming languages such as PHP5, AJAX, CSS3, HTML5 and user-interface design.

How did DeckBooks come about?
DeckBooks got started was when I was doing events for friends, families and clients when all the information for the events was all on paper; which as you can imagine is a handful. So I started looking into the various other event planning software to help manage my events and those didn’t really cater to what I needed or was too complicated to get setup and running on first run. Also a big factor for me was UK support so I could get help quickly should I become stuck and the simplicity of the software.

During one late night waiting for a server to configure, I start writing a very basic system to enter my events into; slowly it started gaining more and more features, a user interface and developed into what you see as DeckBooks now.

The future
In the future I hope to grow DeckBooks into becoming the number 1 DJ event management and planning software in the UK and then expand to worldwide support whilst still keeping the ease of use and community driven features at the heart of DeckBooks.

So, we’re guessing you want to know what it looks like? Here are some screenshots to wet your appetite!

He’ll also tell you about a fantastic exclusive offer he has put together for SEDA members so if you’re looking to move away from that old-fashioned diary and pen into the digital world then you need to be at our next ShowNight!!!

Can’t you tell BPM starts on Saturday? All of the big industry shiny-makers are letting the cats out of the bags and launching amazing new products to capture our attention (and our wallets) whereas Serato have just added something to their product line that costs…well, nothing.

ZERO?

Yep, absolutely free!

HOW CAN THAT BE?

The Auckland-based company have made a wise move and have made their software technology available to the masses. Up until now if you wanted to use Scratch Live you had to buy a supported product from Rane such as the SL-1 USB box. Likewise with Itch you would’ve had to have bought a supported hardware controller such as the Pioneer DDJ-S1 or VCI-300.

DJ-Intro is basically a software package that is not tied down to a particular piece of hardware or a controller. Serato are remaining tight-lipped about exactly which controllers will work with DJ-Intro but we do know at this stage it will work with these…

Numark MixTrack Pro

Numark MixDeck Express

Numark MixDeck Quad

Vestax Typhoon (and Spin presumably)

Vestax VCI-100 mk2

I’m sure that more information will be made available over the weekend but for now, if you use any of the above controllers, make your way over to http://www.serato.com and download DJ-Intro for FREE and enjoy using some top-grade DJ software.

For more information on DJ-Intro, click on the link below!

Furthermore, the email that was sent out to all OtsAV license holders contains the words…and I quote…

Stay in the ‘loop’.

Wether that is an indication that Esperance will feature looping is anyone’s guess!

I can’t help but admit that there is an air of excitement in the Forest household this morning due to the fact that I (and thousands of others across the globe) have received an email this morning from OtsLabs which reads as follows…

Dear Ian,

As the next OtsAV update is nearing completion, now is a great time to come and join us on twitter and facebook to be sure you’re in the know, and indeed the first to know!

Although we will continue to send emails as we’ve done in the past, we invite you to join us on these alternative mediums in order to speed communication and make sure you’re not a victim of the many mail services we find delaying (or even worse sometimes, bouncing) notification emails.

Additionally, we’ll be periodically issuing VIP spot specials that are exclusive to these new mediums. Come join the community, engage, learn and assist, and be sure to always have the latest news as it’s breaking.

We look forward to your participation and can’t wait to share with you our next major update of OtsAV!

Kind regards,
The Team @ Ots Labs

Now, i’m not going to tear apart this email but the words “is nearing completion” could mean absolutely anything. It has taken OtsAV almost 12 years to get to the stage it is at now and there are some very fundamental features missing; multiple cue points, 4-decks, looping, FX and most of all, support for the latest breed of controllers such as the Denon MC6000, Pioneer DDJ series and so on.

Where OtsLabs takes this next update is anyone’s guess. They have already said previously on Jumpin’ Jeff’s unofficial support forum that they “make no money out of DJs, the radio and TV market is where it’s at” so for the most of us I guess the message isn’t don’t get your hopes up, but OtsLabs seem to relish on the element of surprise and for me personally, that makes me feel quite excited.

In the meantime, you can sign up to their many new social media feeds..

It’s all go, go, go with new DJ technology wowing the folk over at Musikmesse in Frankfurt and this time we focus on a new item from the boys at Numark, The Mixdeck Quad.

Here’s the blurb…

If you want to get people moving on the dance floor, the MIXDECK QUAD is a complete DJ system with 4 channel mixer that puts you in complete control at any event. Thanks to the integrated 4-channel mixer, you can cue and layer to your heart’s content.

Based upon the popular MIXDECK controller, the MIXDECK QUAD kicks it up a notch by adding support for core MIDI on the iPad, opening the world of Apps like Algoriddum’s DJAY to your DJ rig. In addition we added a fully functional 4 channel digital/analog MIDI mixer, allowing total control of both the iPad and DJ software while mixing from CD, thumb drives, mics, or external sources.

MIXDECK QUAD comes complete with Traktor LE software in Europe and Virtual DJ software in North and South America so from the moment you open the box and connect to your computer, you’re spinning tracks digitally. In addition, you can play from virtually any kind of media with MIXDECK QUAD including CDs, MP3 CDs, USB Flash drives and of course, the iPad. BPM analyzation and Tap Tempo ensure that you never miss a beat. With MIXDECK QUAD you can control your favorite MIDI software, with no timecode needed, using a simple USB connection.

On top of playing all kinds of music media, each one of MIXDECK QUAD’s decks enables you to add flavor to your performances with integrated, beat-synced DSP effects that include chop, echo, filter, flanger, pan, and phaser. Each is completely adjustable and a dedicated wet-dry fader controls them all.

MIXDECK QUAD contains a set of beat and pitch tools that will help you with beat matching and harmonic mixing. Start playing a track and MIXDECK QUAD automatically analyzes its BPM (tempo), and displays it on screen. There’s also a Tap tempo button for manual BPM entry. You can alter the track’s BPM by ±6, 12, 25, and 100% using the pitch fader. For each of those ranges, you can also engage Key Lock, which holds the pitch (key) of the track while you independently manipulate its BPM. There’s also a set of pitch-bend buttons on each track for quick tweaks.

MIXDECK QUAD has a full-featured 4-channel mixer built right in. Each input channel has its own gain and three-band EQ/rotary kills (+12dB/ -INF). The mixer channels control the audio from MIXDECK QUAD’s onboard players, incoming audio from your computer, or external sources such as turntables, MP3s players and more. MIXDECK QUAD has two sets of stereo, switchable phono/line inputs for external sources. MIXDECK QUAD’s replacable crossfader has switchable slope and reverse so you can customize its performance based on your preferences.

MIXDECK QUAD gives you a complete range of remixing tools for on-the-fly creativity, including seamless looping on a set of easy-to-understand controls, sampling, and easily accessible hot cues. Numark’s familiar Bleep/Reverse gives you the ability to keep time moving forward while you cut or reverse the track.

You can play tracks from discs in single-track, continuous, and programmable playback modes for flexible performance. Fader Start enables MIXDECK QUAD to start playing the track you have cued up when you move the crossfader for effortless transitions. You can also use Fader Start with compatible CD players connected to MIXDECK QUAD’s inputs.

There is so much you can do with MIXDECK QUAD because we jammed it full of world-class features like DSP effects with wet-dry fader, chop, echo, filter, flanger, pan and phaser. It also has smooth, fast, slot-loading drives with large, touch-sensitive illuminated platters so that the moment your fingers touch the platter, you know your performance is on. You can work the room thanks to MIXDECK QUAD’s 1/4-inch mic input with its own gain and ±15dB high and low EQ. There’s also a complete cueing section with dual 1/8 and 1/4-inch headphone outputs, dedicated cue gain, and mini-crossfader control. You’ll also never miss what’s happening with MIXDECK QUAD thanks to its two large, backlit displays.

MIXDECK QUAD has a flexible output section too. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA stereo main outputs along with Booth and Record RCA outs allow for sending your mix to different locations and systems, including recording to your iPod. There’s also a direct stereo output from each deck for use with timecode control interfaces including Serato Scratch LIVE software or external effects processors.

MIXDECK QUAD gives you the ability to perform, mix, remix, and record with virtually any popular music media. Whether you play parties, clubs, events, or in a group, MIXDECK QUAD also gives you the freedom to DJ from nearly any source all in one unit, with the flexibility to add on and expand as much as you like.

No surprise that the chaps over at DV247.com have it listed on their website with a price tag of £829 (June 2011). The standard Mixdeck weighs in at £699.00 so the extra features in this particular model come at a fairly hefty premium.

Hot on the heels of the release of Traktor Scratch Duo 2, Pioneer introduces the DJM-T1 – the first Traktor certified mixer designed specifically to natively control all of the software’s advanced new features. The Pioneer DJM-T1 is the complete solution: a hybrid mixer, a controller and audio interface in one unit. Also included in the box is a copy of Traktor Scratch Duo 2 software, along with the control CD and vinyl needed for DVS scratch control. All that’s left is to connect your CDJs or turntables to the mixer and the software does the rest.

We designed the DJM-T1 to bring the included software’s exciting new features to life straight out of the box – particularly the eagerly awaited Sample Decks and all the exciting possibilities that they bring. Alongside the two scratch decks, DJs can open a pair of sample decks and load up to four loops or samples in each – or amazing loops and remixing on the fly. The DJM-T1 is geared up to put all the right controls at your fingertips to make this a reality in your performance.

DJs won’t need to touch the computer as all browsing, loading and even cue, play and nudge features are available should the turntables go down. Theres a bank of dedicated controls for Traktor’s Advanced and Chained effects and the included software provides six stunning FX that are guaranteed to inspire. Scratch DJs will be glad to see essential crossfader adjustments such as lag, tension, curve and reverse functions.

The onboard soundcard and MIDI interface lets DJs connect to a computer with a single USB cable and there’s a dedicated output channel to easily record those moments of dexterity and creative genius straight back into the mixer. Inheriting the sound quality design of Pioneers industry-leading DJM-900 and DJM-2000, the DJM-T1 delivers a clear and powerful club sound every time. Plus, with enhanced channel fader durability, it’s a performance-enhancing tool you can depend on time and time again.

As ever, DV247.com have it listed already on their site at £1,279.00.
